羽毛球全英公開賽女單決賽

Last evening I watched the game online.  The game was the matchup between Tai Tzu Ying(戴資穎) and Chen Yufei(陳雨菲), the latter is from China Mainland.  You know, All England Open is the most time-honored tournament of badminton, and its importance is just next to Olympic and World Championship.  This year Tai, the number one in women single ranking, was seeking her third consecutive title, while Chen was challenging an opponent who had defeated her eleven times in a row.  So before the game Chen was definitely the underdog.

As a saying goes: "the ball is round", so is the shuttlecock.  In the game, two young ladies fought neck and neck with equally remarkable skills and amazing stamina.  Either of them could win the matchup, but there was only one winner.  Luckily, I had no preference to either player, so I could have watched the game objectively.  I think Tai failed to fare well the forte she is always good at: feint, so she lost the matchup and let Chen have the last laugh.  Congratulations, Chen.  See you next time, Tai, particularly in Tokyo 2020.

PS.  I think it was okay that Chen outburst her joy in an ecstasy by laying down on floor when she got her winning point, but she should not lay there that long as to let Tai leave on the court embarrassed.  I admire the elegant presence of Tai at the prize giving ceremony, but I hate to see her bow that low at the one before the game.  (Excessive bow is one of remaining relics of Jap occupation.)
