In China Mainland, every now and then there will be controversies over the accuracy of pronunciation on some Chinese words, especially those "anitque" ones.  Now there comes again; please see following report at:

All languages would gradually evolve over times, and there is no exception for that.  So, it takes excellent lexicographers to do the task: making all usages of the words, from ancient to modern, juxtaposed in your dictionaries to serve all purposes. 

PS  In China Taiwan I guess few people would take similar issue seriously any longer.
