I've always said that three great Chinese thoughts, Confucianism, Taoism, and localized Buddhism, or the mixture of Big Three, could lead people the way to settle down and seek their peace of mind in this mundane world.  If you don't like Chinese stuff, that's fine.  Genuine religions like Christianity and Islam could also teach you the same things if you are true believers.  But why are there so many people still having superstitious beliefs that make them seek help from, or put themselves at the mercy of, geomancer and shaman, especially in Taiwan?

You may say those gullible people are all ignorant persons who are unable to distinguish between truth and falsity.  Not exactly.  I notice that the majority of politicians, businessmen, and celebrities in showbiz are liable to trust in the nostrum hyped by geomancers or shamem.  Why?  Because those "elite" are uncertain about what their tomorrows will be, so they need "wise" do's and don'ts to tell them how to behave in order to avoid adversities, and even a piece of talisman will suffice.  Apparently, we can't say those "successful" men and women are ignorant, yet they do have psychological weakness, and so they need instructions from their "masters".

P.S.  How about the people of middle class, or the so-called "pillar of society", who have had well education, stable income, and foreseeable life planning,  will they be immune to the tricks from those imposters?  I don't think so.  You just can't imagine how faithful followers are some of my erstwhile colleagues to their "masters".  An island of fools, I guess.
