"Shed some light on something" means to give clarity to something or to help somebody understand something. When you have a discussion with someone, you can use "Can you shed some light on your words?" to understand the words that confuse you. Same as the opposite condition, when you hear somebody ask you to shed some light on, you should explain again to make people fully understand what you are saying.
