１９６１年１０月,強西卡達（Jon Secada）出生於古巴哈瓦那, 擁有拉丁／非裔血統

父親曾在卡斯楚政權下被監禁三年政治牢

１９７１年, 西卡達舉家遷到美國邁阿密　父母在當地開設咖啡店維生

１９８３年拿到音樂學士, １９８６年拿到音樂碩士（爵士演唱）──兩者皆在佛羅里達州的Frost 音樂學校

１９８６在邁阿密戴德學院（Miami Dade College）擔任教師　直到１９９１年

這年強被介紹給邁阿密之音（Miami Sound Machine）團長Emilio Estefan, Jr., 後者聽過他的試唱帶後, 頗為欣賞, 成為其導師與經紀人, 讓他成為葛洛莉亞伊斯特芬（Gloria Estefan）＆邁阿密之音的合音歌手

並為葛洛莉亞伊斯特芬的［Cuts Both Ways］［Into the Light］專輯提供歌曲創作,包括美國冠軍曲［Coming Out of the Dark］

在Emilio Estefan, Jr.的安排下, 強西卡達與當時EMI旗下的SBK唱片公司簽約

１９９２年５月推出首張英語同名大碟［Jon Secada］（SBK出版）

由Emilio Estefan, Jr.擔任主製作, Clay Ostwald＆Jorge Casas擔任次要製作, 走拉丁流行與R&B曲風, 獲得良好樂評

首支主打是３月推出的［Just Another Day／只是另一天］　由強與Miguel A. Morejon譜寫　

Emilio Estefan, Jr.製作成一首拉丁流行曲, 旋律動廳,節拍輕快

西卡達的聲音魂厚, 富有拉丁歌手的煽情渲染力

葛洛莉亞伊斯特芬還特地為這位前合音歌手合聲──這也成為此曲賣點之一

［Just Another Day］推出後逐漸受到歡迎, 最後登上美國Billboard單曲榜＃５　且名列１９９３年終榜＃１０　拿到金唱片（５０萬張＋）

讓強一舉成名
