１９８０年　處在事業巔峰迪斯可女王唐娜桑瑪（Donna Summer）與所屬的卡薩布蘭加唱片因為音樂事業走向爭執不斷, 分道揚鑣

加入娛樂圈鉅子David Geffen剛成立的Geffen唱片 成為其首位簽約歌手

１９８０年１０月　唐娜推出在新東家的首張大碟／事業第八張專輯［The Wanderer／流浪者］

仍由Giorgio Moroder&Pete Bellotte製作　桑瑪參與五首歌曲創作

改以搖滾主導, 並加入鄉村搖滾（Rockabilly）, 新浪潮跟福音樂風  廣受好評　被認為是桑瑪事業最佳大碟之一

在商業方面, 登上美國專輯榜＃１３　雖然沒以前大碟高　但也拿到金唱片（５０萬張＋）

歐洲表現則差強人意

同名首波主打［The Wanderer］登上美國Billboard單曲榜＃３（百萬金唱片）　是唐娜１９８０年代在美國銷售最高單曲

１９８０年１１月, 將滿３２歲的唐娜推出第二單曲［Cold Love／冷酷的愛］
